Born in Uruapan, state of Michoacán with a twenty six years career, Rocio Vega began her artistic life since childhood in the chorus “Voces del Manantial”. Also, she was member of the dance group “Conjunto Folklórico Tarasco” directed by Rafael Vega España. With him, Rocio danced and sang a long of the Mexican Republic and a few countries of South America. She was member of the mexican and latin american music group “Aymara”. Twenty six years ago, in Uruapan, Rocio was better know as “La Pajarerita (The lady of the birds)”.
In 1994 she enters in the National Music School to obtain bachelor’s degree of ethnomusicology. At the same time, Rocio enters to Schola Cantorum of Mexico.
In 1997 she was part of the “Cantera vocal” ensemble and the radio program “Loteria de animales”(Animal Lottery) that had traditional Mexican music.
In 1999 she returns to his beloved state of Michoacan to give shape to his solo career playing traditional Mexican music. Rocio has taken Michoacan and Mexico into his music to national and international stages like Spain, Portugal, Australia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Chile, Peru and the States.
Rocio had the chance to join the stage with artists like Joan Manuel Serrat, Joaquin Sabina, Victor Manuel and Ana Belen. Also Miguel Rios, Astrid Hadad, Lila Downs, Jaguares and the actress Ofelia Medina. Also, Rocio sang in the tribute of two of the greatest Mexican writers of the 20st century, Elena Poniatowska and Carlos Monsivais.
In her long career, Rocio worked with bands like “Los Carácuaro”, “Los Bermúdez”, “Dueto Zacán”, Grupo Gabán, the guitarists Joaquín Pantoja and Juan Jose Barron, the monumental Mariachi Ordaz and her personal band “Grupo Mezcal”.
Rocio has recorded five CD’s and obtained a scholarship by the Mexican Cultural Department as an artist that renews the traditional Mexican music.
Rocio has won a lot of state, national and international awards. Here a brief list of them.
In march of 2016 the filming of the movie “La voz de un sueño” (The voice of a dream) was completed. The film was inspired by Rocio’s life, who recorded the main themes. The songs were written by José Luis Lopez Pedraza. The famous actors Salvador Sanchez, Patricia Reyes Spindola and Adriana Paz, worked in the movie. The film premiere was in Morelia International Film Festival and later, the movie opened in Mexican cinemas on may 2018.
Also, Rocio acted and sang as Frida Kahlo’ in the monologue “Espejos rotos” (Broken Mirrors) with the guitarist Juan Jose Barron and she worked in TV and radio programs from Mexico and some other countries.
